Rising star and young rapper Pop Smoke was fatally shot this morning during a home invasion at a home in the Hollywood Hills. His real name was Bashar Jackson, only 20 years old a promising young star from New York.
His death comes days after his second mixtape, “Meet the Woo 2,” debuted landing at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200 list. His breakthrough mixtape, “Meet the Woo,” released last year, has 280 million streams worldwide. He is most known for his breakout hit "Welcome to the Party" which was remixed by Nicky Minaj.
Investigators think the home where the rapper was staying was likely targeted by criminals. In recent years, several home invasions in Los Angeles have been aimed at homes being rented by musicians, according to law enforcement sources. It was reported that between two and six suspects fled the scene but no arrests have been made.
Fellow rappers Nicki Minaj, Chance the Rapper and 50 Cent sen condolences via social media.
